Behavior Expectations

Positive Behavior Expectations at School

At Glen Cove we are establishing Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS) based on the work of Dr. Jeffrey Sprague.  Although we will continue to have rules and consequences that are mandated by law, our primary focus will be on implementing positive expectations based on BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, and BE RESPECTFUL.  Under these headings we have developed a matrix for all of the areas of the school.  These expectations are on posters that a posted throughout the school.  During the year, students will be taught our expectations and will be rewarded regularly for adhering to these principals both verbally and through our Distinguished Hawk Award system.  The Distinguished Hawk Award is a small NCR form staff given to students when they see positive behavior.  One copy goes home to parents to put on the refrigerator, the other copy goes into a drawing we do each Friday at chorus time.  Students who win the drawing can choose different awards and get positive acknowledgement from their peers and from staff.  The
